WhatsApp, a messaging platform owned by Meta, has been making strides in the realm of artificial intelligence. Recently, the platform expanded the rollout of its Meta AI chatbots in select markets such as India and the US, and it seems to have more innovative features in the works. One of these upcoming features is the ‘Imagine Me’ feature that will allow users to generate AI-generated photos of themselves.
The ‘Imagine Me’ feature has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp for Android beta release, available through the Google Play Beta program. Users will have the option to upload a few reference selfies to kickstart the generation of AI images by Meta AI. This new feature is still under development and cannot be tested yet even after installing the beta version. Users will be able to ask Meta AI to create an AI image of themselves by typing specific commands in the chat window.
The ‘Imagine Me’ feature will offer users the ability to choose different backgrounds and locations ranging from forest settings to outer space. This customization is expected to help users create personalized stickers. Additionally, users will have the option to delete the uploaded photos at any time through settings. It is mentioned that this feature will be optional, and users will need to manually turn it on in their settings. The feature is expected to be available in a future update to WhatsApp.
Meta AI, WhatsApp’s ChatGPT competitor, has been gradually rolling out in various countries, including India. The chatbot, powered by the in-house Llama 3 large language model (LLM), is not only available on WhatsApp but also on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. This expansion highlights Meta’s commitment to leveraging AI to enhance user experience across its platforms.
The development of the ‘Imagine Me’ feature on WhatsApp showcases the platform’s dedication to integrating advanced AI technologies into its services. By empowering users to generate AI images of themselves, WhatsApp is offering a unique and interactive experience. As the feature continues to be refined and tested, users can look forward to a more personalized and engaging messaging experience on the platform.
