Recently, Amazon Kindle users faced an outage that prevented them from downloading both new and previously purchased books to their e-readers. The issue was noted on Amazon’s support forums and Reddit, causing frustration among users who rely on their Kindles for reading.

Amazon devices spokesperson, Jackie Burke, acknowledged the problem and mentioned that it was quickly resolved. However, Good e-Reader reported that Amazon support indicated the outage was due to “server issues” and that it could take at least 48 hours before ebooks could start downloading again.

In an attempt to assist users still experiencing issues, a staff member on Amazon’s support forums recommended restarting the Kindle device by holding down the power button for 40 seconds. This recommendation came after reports of Kindles only being able to download the title and cover art of books before getting stuck at 1 percent.

The outage not only affected downloading books directly to Kindles but also impacted downloading books from Overdrive to Kindle devices using Libby. However, users of the iOS and Android Amazon Kindle apps did not face any issues during this time.

This recent outage comes on the heels of another issue where Kindle users reported problems with Amazon’s “Send to Kindle” feature, which allows sideloading ebooks and documents onto the e-readers. Some users encountered error messages indicating a service error, while others continued to face problems with the feature earlier in the week.

Overall, the Amazon Kindle outage highlighted the importance of having a reliable and functional system for ebook downloads. While Amazon was able to address the problem relatively quickly, the incident serves as a reminder of the impact of technical issues on users who depend on their devices for reading. It also underscores the need for proactive troubleshooting measures from both companies and users to minimize disruptions in the future.
