The Driver TV series that was initially announced in 2021 and scheduled to launch with a dedicated streaming service called Binge in 2022 has been officially cancelled. The production company behind the series has also been scrapped, leaving fans disappointed by the sudden turn of events. Despite the cancellation, there is still a glimmer of hope for the Driver franchise as a whole, as a Ubisoft spokesperson mentioned that they are actively working on other projects related to the series.

Binge, the gamer-focused streaming service that was supposed to debut alongside the Driver series, never managed to take off the ground. The startup streaming service, co-founded by an individual who boldly claims to be “disrupting tomorrow,” was posting about Web3 and “Watch-To-Earn” just a few months ago. With no significant progress or user base, Binge quickly faded into obscurity, leaving behind the failed promise of a new streaming platform for gamers.

The last installment in the Driver video game series was Driver: San Francisco, released back in 2011. The game featured a unique storyline where the protagonist, Tanner, is in a coma and gains the ability to possess different drivers in an open-world city. Despite its innovative gameplay mechanics, the Driver series has remained dormant for years, with no new releases or updates in sight.

While the cancellation of the Driver TV series may come as a disappointment to fans, there is still hope for the future of the franchise. With Ubisoft hinting at “exciting projects” in the works, there is a possibility of a new Driver video game being developed. However, given the unpredictable nature of game development and release schedules, fans should temper their expectations until an official announcement is made.

The fate of the Driver franchise remains uncertain following the cancellation of the TV series and the failure of the Binge streaming service. Fans can only wait and see what Ubisoft has in store for the beloved series, hoping for a revival that will bring back the thrill of high-speed chases and adrenaline-fueled gameplay.
