The latest expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Dawntrail, has been out for just a few days and has already garnered a lot of attention from players. With new story content, an additional 10 levels, and hours of gameplay, the expansion has brought a lot to the table for fans of the MMO. However, despite the positive aspects of the expansion, players have been vocal about their concerns regarding one of the new jobs introduced in Dawntrail.
One of the classes that players have been particularly critical of is the Viper, a dual sword-wielding job that has been deemed too “busy” in terms of its skill rotation. Players have raised concerns about the excessive directional requirements and the overall complexity of the job. In response to this feedback, Square Enix has announced a set of incoming changes planned across the game’s next run of patches. Director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida detailed various fixes and adjustments that will be made to address these issues.
The upcoming patches will focus on tweaking the Viper job to reduce its demand for directional requirements and adjust the effects of various actions. Most of these changes will be implemented in patch 7.05, with some adjustments to the range of actions coming in the next patch. Additionally, the Pictomancer job will receive a smaller bug fix related to effects for specific skills that can be manually disabled by players.
In addition to the new jobs, existing classes like the Monk, Astrologian, Samurai, Red Mage, and Black Mage will also see changes in the upcoming patches. The Monk will address inadequate performance issues and adjust core attacks, while the Astrologian will make recast time changes to improve usability during damage burst phases. The Samurai and Red Mage will see adjustments to recast timers and skill effects, respectively. Black Mages will receive adjustments to help with MP recovery and attack potency.
Changes for Tanks
Tanks as a whole will also undergo changes to address player feedback about the difficulty of maintaining enmity. Dark Knight and Gunbreaker characters, in particular, have struggled with damage removal from movement abilities. The upcoming patches will increase enmity effects on movement abilities and area-of-effect attacks to help tanks maintain aggro more effectively.
Overall Feedback and Developer Response
The release of Dawntrail has been relatively smooth compared to previous expansions, thanks to new servers and congestion-easing measures put in place by the developers. However, Square Enix is committed to addressing player feedback and ensuring that the overall gaming experience is improved for all players. Yoshida has assured players that several issues, in addition to job complaints, will be resolved in future patches to enhance the overall gameplay experience.
The Dawntrail expansion for Final Fantasy XIV has brought new content and challenges for players to enjoy. While there have been some issues with the new jobs introduced in the expansion, Square Enix is actively working on addressing player feedback and making necessary changes to improve the overall gaming experience. With ongoing updates and patches planned, players can look forward to a more balanced and enjoyable gameplay experience in the world of Eorzea.
