Instagram has rolled out a new feature called ‘profile song’ which allows users to add a specific song to their profile that reflects their mood or preferences. The social media platform has partnered with US-based singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter for the launch of this feature. The song will be displayed below the user’s bio and can be played by tapping the music icon. However, the playback will be limited to 30 seconds.

Setting Up Profile Song

To add a song to your profile, users can select “Edit profile” from their Profile tab and then tap “Add music to your profile”. They can search for their favorite song or browse through the “For You” section to select a song and choose the clip duration for their Profile. The feature is available on all consumer and creator accounts and users can choose 30 seconds of the song for their profile.

Availability on Instagram Platforms

While the profile song feature is currently available on Instagram for Android users, it is not yet present on the iOS app. This new feature adds to the list of media-related updates introduced by Instagram in recent months. In July, the platform announced a multi-audio tracks feature for Instagram Reels, allowing users to add up to 20 tracks to a single Reel. Users can also align the audio with text, edit the Reel with stickers, clips, and other items, and generate a fade effect with an option to overlap audio clips. The mix created will be saved with attribution to the creator, making it easier for users to share their content.

Overall, Instagram’s profile song feature adds a new dimension to user profiles, allowing for more personalisation and expression. With the collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter and the availability of licensed songs, users can choose a song that resonates with them and showcases their personality. The addition of this feature, along with other media-related updates, demonstrates Instagram’s commitment to providing users with creative tools and enhancing their social media experience.
