Photography enthusiasts are always looking for ways to improve their craft and experiment with new tools. Samyang, a well-known company in the photography industry, has recently introduced a unique prime lens called the Remaster Slim.
Revolutionizing Camera Bags
Traditionally, photographers have had to carry multiple lenses with different focal lengths to achieve the desired composition. This not only adds weight to their camera bags but also increases the risk of missing the perfect shot. However, Samyang’s Remaster Slim lens aims to change this by allowing photographers to swap out optical elements inside the lens, rather than carrying multiple lenses.
One of the key features of the Remaster Slim lens is its compact design, measuring just 0.8 inches thick. This slim profile makes it easy to carry and eliminates the need for bulky lens cases. Additionally, the lens offers three different inserts with varying focal lengths, including a wider 21mm f/2.8, a 28mm f/3.5, and a 32mm f/3.5 ideal for portrait photography.
Analog Sensibility
Samyang claims that the Remaster Slim lens offers a “genuine analog sensibility” reminiscent of old film cameras. This unique feature sets it apart from modern digital lenses and appeals to photographers looking for a more nostalgic look in their images. However, this analog feel may also result in softer images compared to traditional prime lenses.
It is important to note that the Remaster Slim lens is only compatible with Sony’s E-mount lens system. The lens was initially available for preorder in South Korea for 308,000 won, approximately $229 USD, before quickly selling out. Shipping is set to begin in early September, with wider availability in South Korea expected in early October. As of now, there is no announcement regarding availability in other markets.
Samyang’s Remaster Slim lens offers a unique and innovative approach to photography by allowing photographers to change focal lengths without switching lenses. While it may not appeal to all photographers due to its potential for softer images, it definitely changes the game in terms of portability and convenience.
