WhatsApp is introducing a new era of stickers with enhanced interactivity and dynamic animations, thanks to the integration of the Lottie framework support. Initially spotted in a beta version of the WhatsApp for Android app back in February, this feature is now being widely rolled out with the latest stable update for both Android and iOS platforms.
More Dynamic Animations
Stickers on WhatsApp will now boast more fluid animations, kicking off with the debut of the first sticker pack titled “I’m Just a Girl.” Users who have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp on Android and iOS can enjoy this new feature. If the sticker pack is visible on the WhatsApp sticker store, users can expect it to be enabled for them, ushering in a new wave of dynamic stickers.
Traditionally, sticker packs on WhatsApp have been in the WebP format, allowing for image compression without compromising quality online. However, with the Lottie framework, stickers can now have more intricate and fluid animations produced using motion graphic design software like Adobe After Effects, specifically optimized for mobile viewing.
Stickers crafted with Lottie are vector-based, granting developers and users the flexibility to scale animations to their preference without losing resolution. The “I’m Just a Girl” sticker pack, created by BUCK, is the pioneering official sticker pack utilizing this new framework, showcasing stickers with more seamless animations compared to existing packs. Despite its enhanced animations, this sticker pack maintains a modest size of 228KB.
In addition to introducing support for the Lottie framework, Meta Platforms, the parent company of WhatsApp, has revealed plans to bring Meta AI to India. This AI chatbot, powered by Meta’s proprietary Llama 3 large language model (LLM), was initially announced in April but is now making its way to Indian users through apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook in the near future.
